My Story
I’m an artist and educator who loves to explore, experiment, and keep curiosity at the heart of everything I make. Working in watercolor, pen and ink, botanical alchemy, and illustration, I’m endlessly inspired by the natural world. I’ve exhibited and taught both in the U.S. and abroad, across many mediums and for students of every age and ability.
I’m a Certified Zentangle® Teacher and a proud member of the Buffalo Society of Artists, the Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society, and the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators.
As the CEO and lead artist of Whimsy by Kelly, I create from my studio inside Hiraeth House in the historic Allentown district of downtown Buffalo, New York.
“I believe art is for everyone. My youngest student is four and my oldest is ninety-seven. You can do this. You just have to remember that your imagination is magic. Practice helps, but the only thing standing between you and creativity is the idea that you can’t.”
I’ve been making things for as long as I can remember. Before becoming a full-time artist, I spent years in the corporate world, always finding ways to bring creativity into every role. Eventually I realized that art wasn’t just something I did but who I am.
I grew up in the suburbs of Buffalo and have been lucky enough to travel widely, finding inspiration in color, light, and the patterns of everyday life. I’m most at home surrounded by paints, paper, and the hum of new ideas waiting to take shape.
My work is about curiosity, connection, and honoring the beauty in small details. Whether I’m layering watercolor washes or building texture with ink, I’m always chasing that moment when observation turns into wonder.
